IAG’s Asset Integrity NDE Services team has been providing Material Verification testing since 2002 on various pipeline, structural, and even marine drilling ship components to ensure that their Mechanical Properties meet the usage requirements or the Material Testing Records that they were manufactured to originally.

We have Qualified Operators on all the Industry Accepted Technologies and have experience working on field Projects from PMI through Seam Toughness and MAOP Validation programs. We can help provide application based decisions on which tool(s) to use for your particular project to maximize budget and deliverables.

SEAM TOUGHNESS & PMI

IAG’s Asset Integrity NDE Service Line has Operators capable of providing Seam Toughness results while using the MMT Hardness, Strength, and Ductility (HSD) Tooling to collect pipe grade related data on a pipe joint. This additional testing will provide Non-Destructive test results for Charpy V Notch (CVN) 85% shear transition temperature, and CVN toughness values to fulfill the requirements in Title 49 CRF§ 192.712 (e)(2).

How do we do it?

  • Data acquisition for seam toughness is unchanged from the existing HSD Process. Further data analysis is performed to determine CVN toughness by MMT Engineers while compiling Final Pipe Grade Report.
  • HSD Field Process Includes:
    • 3 x HSD Base Metal Tests across 2 quadrants
    • 2 x HSD Seam Tests (includes 1 x Macro etch at each test location)
    • Chemistry analysis (burr shavings and lab OES)
    • Microscopy (Metallurgical images of grain structure)

Does it Take Longer?

  • Polishing time = No, it is the same preparation and testing sequence done for Pipe Grade Testing
  • Testing time = 3 x Tests may add 30 to 45min to the overall time at site
  • Capable of finishing 2 x excavated dig sites in a 10hr working day

What is the Deliverable:

  • Material Verification Report (Strength values and grade verification)
  • ERW Seam CVN Toughness Report (Transition temperature, Upper Shelf confirmation, and Applicable CVN Toughness)
